WEP enters its final year

As the Water Efficiency Project (WEP) enters its final year, we are continuing to make progress towards our final two milestones and achieving the Project target of 15.9GL of cumulative water savings.

While finalising landowner engagement on proposed works, we have been actively planning for a busy year of construction.

I stepped into the role of Project Director in October 2022 following Frank Fisseler’s departure.

It has been a challenging period to navigate for the project team, landowners, community and the local supply chain given the significant flooding across northern Victoria late last year.

It has taken a huge effort by not only the direct project team but also our contractors to get active construction works recommenced post floods. These partnerships and the support of local communities have been critical to our ongoing success.

We again thank the community for working with us as we continue to deliver WEP and look forward to delivering further modernisation works across the GMID.

Upgrades delivered for Kerang

WEP has now decommissioned 8.5km of channel and installed 8km of pipeline in Kerang, including in the town itself. These works have provided a more efficient water service to over 100 customers and will generate around 1GL of water savings each year.

As well as improving water delivery efficiency, the removal of open channels has improved general safety in the area. This has been a great result for the town, and we thank the residents, businesses, and local council for working so closely with us as we delivered this work.
