A Warm Welcome To WEP

Welcome to the GMW Water Efficiency Project, or as we call it, WEP.

Welcome to the GMW Water Efficiency Project, or as we call it, WEP.

After the success of the recently completed $2B Connection Project, the WEP team and I are very excited to be delivering further modernisations and water savings for the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District under the $177 Million WEP.

The GMW WEP activities will use off-farm treatments to achieve 15.9GL annual water savings by the end of the project in 2023, while pursuing infrastructure solutions that improve level of service and reduce future asset maintenance costs.

We have been hard at work planning Winter Works 2021 packages to kick off the project without delay. This years regular irrigation shutdown will be especially important for Domestic and Stock customers in Shepparton East as we make use of the annual irrigation shutdown from 15 May. The modernisation work will include regulator automation and meter upgrades to be able to implement Total Channel Control across more of the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District.

A reminder to please consider your water needs ahead of the annual winter irrigation shutdown this year that begins on 15 May. Landowners need to make sure they have enough on farm storage to provide their own supply until mid August as the irrigation channels are lowered for both the regular GMW maintenance activities, and also the newly funded WEP work.

I look forward to providing you regular updates as we deliver this exciting new project for GMW customers and community.

Take it slow on the road - we will be!

The GMW maintenance teams and WEP contractors are excited to be making arrangements for the repairs and upgrades on the channel system in Shepparton East this winter.

Some of the machinery, materials and equipment the crews will require can be quite large or unusually shaped, meaning oversized and slow moving vehicles on the roads as they make their way to the different work sites in Shepparton East.

Please take extra care on local roads this winter as these large and unusual vehicles are a bit slow but can be deceivingly long for those considering overtaking.

We appreciate your patience while we maintain and modernise the irrigation network in your community.
